Culture in Medical Device Sales

I know some of you might be sitting there thinking, “Can I really do this? Is it really possible for me to break into medical device sales?” I get it—it’s easy to doubt yourself, especially when you’re just starting out or don’t have a traditional sales background. But I’m here to tell you: Absolutely, it’s possible! And I’ve seen it happen again and again.

Let me share a few quick success stories that show just what’s achievable with the right mindset, support, and strategy:

  • A 23-year-old with no prior sales experience came to us, hungry to learn and ready to put in the work. After going through our program, he landed a position starting at $125,000 a year—right out of the gate!
  • One of our members, who will be featured on the podcast soon, managed to snag a $170,000 offer with Abbott. Here’s the kicker—he also had zero experience in sales before coming to us.
  • Another amazing story is a physical therapist who had never done sales before. He followed our guidance, went through the process, and now has a $175,000 offer from Medtronic. What’s even better is that he’s already negotiating for an even higher salary!

So yes, it’s totally possible, and it’s happening all the time. If these folks can do it, I’m confident you can too. It’s all about getting the right tools, believing in yourself, and finding a community that’s got your back.

Why Company Culture Matters More Than You Think

Here’s something we don’t talk about enough in this industry—company culture. I see it happen all the time: people land a job, but the company turns out to be a bad fit. Maybe it’s a super competitive “sink or swim” kind of place where nobody really has your back, or it’s a company where you just don’t feel valued or supported.

I know what that’s like. When I first got hired at Medtronic, I came in with zero experience as a full-line rep. I faced a lot of skepticism—people literally questioned my ability to do the job, saying things like, “How’s the kid with no sales experience doing?” It was tough, and I had to deal with a lot of negativity. But I didn’t let that stop me. I kept pushing and eventually proved myself as a top performer.

Then, I moved to Innovis Medical, where the culture was completely different. There, I felt supported, valued, and was surrounded by high performers who genuinely wanted to see me grow. That’s exactly what I want for you—to be in a place that helps you become the best version of yourself.

If you’re currently somewhere that’s not pushing you to grow or making you better, it’s okay to start looking for other opportunities. You deserve to be in an environment where you can thrive.

Choosing the Right Company: Know Your Worth

You have to remember: You are in control of your career. Don’t let yourself get stuck in a place that doesn’t value you. If you’re feeling held back, if you’re not growing, if you’re not being supported, it’s time for a gut check. Ask yourself, “Am I in the right place? Is this company helping me reach my full potential?”

Honestly, a lot of companies will say all the right things, but when push comes to shove, they won’t hesitate to cut corners or make decisions that aren’t in your best interest. That’s why I always tell people to keep their options open. Even when I was doing really well at Medtronic, I made it a point to interview with other companies every year. Not because I was unhappy, but because I never wanted to feel trapped. I wanted to make sure I was somewhere that matched my goals and values.

And that’s what I want for you too. Always know your worth, and don’t be afraid to explore new options if where you are right now isn’t serving you. You’ve got this! And remember, you’re never alone—reach out if you need help or guidance. That’s what this community is all about.

Final Thoughts

If you’re sitting there wondering if it’s really possible for you to break into medical device sales, I want you to know that it absolutely is. I’ve seen people from all kinds of backgrounds, with no experience, land amazing offers and build successful careers. It’s all about believing in yourself, staying focused, and surrounding yourself with the right support system. Don’t settle for less than what you’re worth—keep pushing forward, keep learning, and always know that you have a community here cheering you on every step of the way. Let’s make it happen!
