Rest Is Important In Medical Device Sales

Medical device sales is a grind. There is no way around that.

If you want to break in, perform, hit quota, and grow fast, you are going to have to work. You are going to have seasons where you are putting in long days, taking calls after hours, learning the products, learning the sales process, and doing everything you can to get better. That is real. That is part of it.

But something people do not talk about enough is this: rest matters too.

The First Year Usually Takes a Different Level of Effort

In the beginning, hustle matters. A lot.

When I first got into medical device sales, I was all in. I was working long days, taking extra calls, learning from reps, listening to sales podcasts, studying the business, and trying to get better every single day. That season helped me grow fast.

That is also one reason I was able to move quickly in the industry.

But there is a difference between a season of heavy work and living like that forever.

Rest Helps You Think Better

Every time I travel or get out of my normal environment, the same thing happens.

I slow down. I feel refreshed. I get new ideas. Problems I had been thinking about for weeks suddenly make sense. It is like the pressure finally comes off and my mind can work the way it is supposed to.

That is why rest is so important in medical device sales. When you are constantly in cases, emails, texts, account issues, and quota pressure, you can get stuck in the grind. You stay busy, but you stop thinking clearly.

Rest gives you perspective.

Hustle Without Recovery Eventually Catches Up

There was a point in my career where I was pushing hard all the time. I was doing medical device sales, building other things on the side, creating content, and trying to keep everything moving.

I was growing, but I was not creating much balance.

And what I learned is that if you never step away, you can end up stuck in your own hamster wheel. You keep running, but you never really stop long enough to ask whether you are building the life you actually want.

That is why recovery matters. Not because you are lazy. Because if you want to perform at a high level for a long time, you need it.

Being Productive Is Not the Same as Being Busy

A lot of reps are busy. Not all of them are productive.

There is a huge difference.

Sometimes people spend 10 hours working, but if they were focused, they could have done the same amount in 3 or 4. That is one of the biggest lessons in this career. Learn when to push, and learn when to pull back and reset.

That reset can be a trip, a weekend off, a quiet morning, a walk, a workout, or just time away from your normal environment.

Final Thoughts

If you are in medical device sales, work hard. Learn fast. Earn your spot.

But do not make the mistake of thinking nonstop hustle is the goal forever.

The goal is to build a career and a life that you can actually enjoy. Rest is part of that. It helps you think better, lead better, sell better, and come back stronger.

Go crush it. But make sure you build in time to breathe too.
